Last week, trailers for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Spider-Man: Brand New Day were released. Because of that, I am going to discuss them, what I think of them, and what I think will happen in them. As for how I will feel about these movies when they are released, you will never know. I will already have graduated by then.

On March 19, 2026, the Sonic the Hedgehog 4 teaser trailer was released on the official Paramount and Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channels. In it, the title for the fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie was revealed to be called…Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Oh wow! The fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie being called Sonic the Hedgehog 4? How surprising!!! Anyways, the trailer opens with Amy Rose’s hammer opening like a portal to different locations of the Sonic the Hedgehog movies in the background as we see the Chaos Emeralds with a reflection of different Sonic the Hedgehog movie characters. In the end, we see Metal Sonic, and then the grand title reveal: “Sonic the Hedgehog 4.” Throughout the trailer, Jim Carrey’s Dr. Ivo Robotnik narrates about how the time of the world is about to run out. I feel like this movie is definitely adapting Sonic CD because it is introducing Metal Sonic and Amy like Sonic CD, and Sonic CD also deals with good and bad futures, which Robotnik narrates about something like that. Also, the theme song for Sonic CD, “Sonic Boom,” was used in the trailer, so all signs are pointing towards Sonic the Hedgehog 4 adapting Sonic CD. Honestly, I kind of wonder if “Sonic Boom” is going to be for this movie as Crush 40’s “Live and Learn” was for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, since “Live and Learn” (or the theme of Sonic Adventure 2) was used in Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s teaser trailer and final movie. Also, in case you have not been paying attention, yes, Jim Carrey is returning as Robotnik, despite literally dying in the last movie (sorry about the spoiler, but you had over a year to watch Sonic the Hedgehog 3). They may not explain it just like they did in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 even though Robotnik fell to his presumed demise in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. However, there is a theory that this might be an alternate universe Robotnik due to leaked concept art for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which depicts an alternate universe Robotnik with Metal Sonic ruling the world. Apparently, it is a thing for studios to revive concepts that do not make it in the movie for the sequel, so it may be that. It has also been revealed that Keanu Reeves is returning to voice Shadow the Hedgehog, which is definitely exciting because he and the Robotniks were the highlights of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. As for how they will explain how Shadow escaped death, they might just not explain it, or he might have used Chaos Control to survive. Overall, I am very excited for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. It will be released on March 19, 2027.

(Spider-Man: Brand New Day poster by Marvel from Marvel.com)
On March 18, 2026, Sony released the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer to their YouTube channel. In my opinion, it looks pretty good. First, it appears to have a slightly more serious tone to the story, which is good because of how Spider-Man: No Way Home ended. Speaking of Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending, I am kind of worried about how they are going to introduce Ned and MJ in the story because I feel like their inclusion in this movie would ruin Spider-Man: No Way Home’s ending. Maybe they will do their return well, but I would have preferred if they were no longer in the Spider-Man movies (unless Ned became the Hobgoblin in a future Spider-Man movie). Besides that, it seems like it is going to be adapting the Man-Spider stuff from the comics and Spider-Man (The Animated Series), which will be interesting to see. Basically, at some point in the comics, Spider-Man’s Spider gene mutated him to the point where he became Man-Spider, where he became more like a spider. I am honestly quite interested in how they are going to pull that off. In the trailer, Peter Parker went to see Bruce Banner about the mutation, which is definitely good to know that Nerdy Shrek is (presumably) gone. I know that there have been rumors that the real Hulk is returning in this movie, and I really hope that those rumors are true. On the topic of characters in this movie, the Punisher was shown, and his inclusion was great. I just know that Frank and Peter are going to have a great dynamic throughout the movie. However, I kind of feel bad for Jon Bernthal because he has to deal with both Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo most likely spoiling this movie. I just know that Jon Bernthal is going to be babysitting them in the marketing and press for the movie, like Benedict Cumberbatch was for Tom Holland during Spider-Man: No Way Home’s marketing. We also saw Scorpion in the trailer, which he was teased in Spider-Man: Homecoming from nine years ago. In other words, it is nice to see this nine-year tease finally get paid off. There is also a group of people in red who are bad guys, which I do not really know anything about, but I am sure that I will learn more about soon. As of right now, it seems like lots of things are going to happen, and I kind of wonder how they are going to pull everything off, but I feel like they are going to do it well. I also like how it seems like we do not really know everything about the movie yet because movie trailers nowadays either show too much, show too little, or show stuff that misrepresents the movie. I feel like this trailer definitely struck the balance of the first two. Overall, I am excited for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it releases on July 31, 2026.
