This Wednesday, January 14, two of the biggest soccer games of the season took place; our boys’ and girls’ soccer teams’ games against ESA. Ascension and ESA, the two major Episcopal High schools in the area, have been rival schools for years, adding to the excitement of both of these district games. But here, I want to spotlight our girls’ team and their game against ESA. This victory over ESA is a huge step, as ESA’s girls’ team has been district champions four years running. For the seniors on this team, that means ESA’s girls soccer team has been the district Champion for their entire high school career. This year, however, there was a significant change in the rankings of these two schools, both because ESA lost valuable senior players and because Ascension gained new talent and experience as a team. The circumstances paved the way for an upset this season. The energy at this game was unmatched throughout the whole game. Ascension held the lead throughout the entire game, ending the first half with the score 1-0 and finishing strong with a phenomenal score of 4-1. This was a much-deserved Blue Gator victory that the girls’ soccer team has been working towards for years now. Wednesday’s win puts the team one step closer to becoming possible district champions this season! This victory is a huge payoff for years of work and dedication put in by the coaches, fans, and players alike. Thank you to the fans who have supported the girls’ soccer team for the past few years, through the highs and lows, and congratulations to Ascension soccer!
