The previous week marked the start of the college football season for both UL and LSU, and the games ended with a powerful win and a tough loss.
The first college football game for UL was against Grambling State, who had come off a mediocre season, finishing 5-6 and 4th in the division. Throughout the game, it was clear that UL was the better team on offense and defense, and the final score of the game was 40-10 UL. The starting quarterback for UL, Ben Wooldridge, who was previously in a battle for the starting QB spot against Chandler Fields, passed for over 300 yards, 3 TDs, and an impressive 76% completion rate. Many big plays from the offense and impressive stops from the defense helped fuel UL to a 1-0 record on the season, and they will hope to continue this success at Kennesaw State this Saturday.
The first college football game for 13 ranked LSU was against 23 ranked USC, who came off a 8-5 season and finished 6th place in the Pac-12. The game was very tight throughout every single quarter, with USC and LSU trading back the lead and scoring drives. In the end, however, a last minute drive from USC ended up breaking the 20-20 tie, resulting in an LSU loss of 27-20. Garret Nussmeier, the starting quarterback at LSU, had a sufficient performance, passing for over 300 yards with 2 TDs and a 77% completion rate. The offense and defense had a good performance Sunday, but missed offensive opportunities led to a loss. LSU hopes to rebound and regroup from this loss with their first home game against Nicholls State this Saturday.
