See You at the Pole

See You at the Pole

Once a year, the students at Ascension and all over the world gather around the flagpoles of their school to pray. This special day is referred to as, See You at the Pole. This event began at 7:00 am at the Downtown campus and 7:30 am at the Sugar Mill Pond campus. It was not required, but it was greatly encouraged by our spiritual life team. It starts off with a prayer leader, and this year, at the Sugar Mill Pond campus, that was Spiritual Life Prefect senior Emma Guidry. Emma said, “I really felt God at that pole this morning.” She was very enthusiastic and prepared to lead everyone in prayer at an early hour.

Wednesday, September 25th could not have been a more perfect day for this event to take place. The sky was clear blue, the sun was shining, it was not too hot, and most importantly, many students from each grade showed up to praise the Lord. All of the students gathered in a circle, side by side, to take turns saying a little prayer. If the student does not wish to pray aloud, they simply tapped the person’s shoulder to their right to let them know it is their turn. Senior Mia Dardar said,  “It was great to see everyone come together and pray.” Some prayers were as simple as, “Dear God, thank you for all the opportunities you have given us.” It was a very precious time that definitely made God smile from up above.

Ascension was generous enough to provide the students who attended with free doughnuts. We know the students went to pray, but the doughnuts definitely persuaded them. Also, the students were given the opportunity to wear any spiritual life shirt or sweatshirt. Although these things are not that big of a deal, they seem to make everyone’s day a little happier and easy going. If you have never attended See You at the Pole, I suggest you do next year because it is an awesome opportunity to thank God along with your classmates and the administration.
