Senior lunch privileges have been one of the most exciting things seniors look forward to when they are finally the oldest on campus. The privilege has been modified over the years. I remember that last year, when we still had the rotating classes, the seniors were allowed to leave during study hall advisory and lunch, which was a newer development from the past years. That gave the seniors a lot of time to go get lunch.
The privilege always starts the second week of semester two, which has not changed over the years. So, since we do not have rotating classes anymore, we are allowed to just leave during study hall and lunch. It is not the same amount of time every day, though. Lunch time is always the same, with a total of 30 minutes; it’s the study hall times that make the lunch period longer or shorter.
On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, we have a total of 55 minutes for lunch if we decide to leave during study hall and lunch. On Wednesdays and Thursdays, we get an hour and 15 minutes for lunch. This is very nice because the longer periods we can go to farther places rather than just getting food in the Youngsville area.
I personally do not go get lunch every day. I check out and sometimes just need a break during the day, so I sit in my car and decompress before having to go back. I try not to get lunch every day also because I am trying to save money for next year and do not want to be spending it all the time. I also do not eat lunch that often, but I try to eat it at least twice a week.
Some of the places my friends and I like to get for lunch are Jersey Mikes, Sonic, and a new place we have tried and liked is Ragin’ Chicken Co. and it is a good place to get lunch sometimes because they give us a certian deal, which is nice. My favorite lunch run so far was on one of the longer days; my friends and I drove to go get swig and made it back to school before the other students’ lunch even started, so we still had thirty minutes to spare.
There is also a very effective system to check out for lunch. All we have to do is open a Google form that Mrs. Reyna sent to us, and it has all of our names on it. There are check boxes next to every name, and all you do is click the box next to your name and submit it. You are also allowed to do this on your computer, or you are allowed to take out your phone to do it as well. When you return to school, you must check back in with the iPad on Ms. Monica’s desk and then make your way to class.
This is a very special privilege we get, and we are all so thankful for this opportunity to be able to do this. This is one of the things that makes senior year so special and something to look forward to every day.
