I visited Moncus Park and interviewed a few small-business owners. I asked each of them three questions. What made you want to start your business? When did you find out that this was something that you wanted to do? What would you tell someone who wants to start a business of their own?

Ashley owns Grinning Jupiter Jammery, selling jams. She said that her business just happened organically. She originally was making art in a studio. She was selling it and decided to include some of her jams to sell. Her jam business sparked from there. She made jam as a chore 18 years ago as a child, so it was already a skill that she had. Ashley would tell people to listen to their intuition, put in work, and enjoy working for themselves. You can follow Ashley’s business on Instagram, which also includes a link to her Etsy: https://www.instagram.com/grinningjupiter_jammery?igsh=MWM5Y2JteHgwbWw3OQ==
Delaney and her husband Chanler own Little Lady Bug, where they sell pottery. Delaney graduated from ceramics at UL, and Chanler quit his job and was looking for something more. They are now very lucky to work in the UL ceramics studio. Delaney always wanted to do some sort of art. Her parents forced her to attend college, and she was originally studying graphic design. She ended up hating it and had already been interested in ceramics, so she decided to take that route. Both Delaney and Chanler would advise people to go for it, see what happens, learn how to learn from people doing the same things you are, and find a community. Delaney’s Instagram showcases all of her artwork. You can follow her on Instagram, which also contains a link to her Etsy here: https://www.instagram.com/littleclaybug?igsh=MXQ1djhkeWxyMmI5ZQ==
