Over the weekend, I finally watched Legally Blonde for the first time, and it was a blast! Here is my review of the movie!
In this classic 2000s chick flick, Reese Witherspoon shines as Elle Woods, the Barbie of her time. Elle is a sorority girl with a passion for anything pink who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, after he broke up with her for being too blonde and unserious. After working hard to get a 179 on her LSAT and get into Harvard, Elle realizes that she never needed Warner or his validation. She commits herself to proving him wrong and showing him that by dumping her, he is missing out on a fabulous girl.
Now Elle’s witty and heartwarming journey unfolds, proving that capability and intelligence can come in any package, even one covered in hot pink and glitter. She and her chihuahua Bruiser Woods (both Gemini vegetarians), take on a murder trial where Elle iconically proves her client’s innocence with the simple, finite rules of haircare, successfully solving a murder and proving to Warner that she doesn’t need him to succeed.
One of my favorite aspects of this movie is the soundtrack! The song that stuck with me the most was the opening number. Hoku’s “Perfect Day” was stuck in my head for days after. This song opens and ends the movie, showing how Elle has developed. The first time Elle has a “Perfect Day” moment, she thinks Warner is proposing. When it plays at the end of the film, Elle has just graduated from Harvard Law as valedictorian of her class! This shows how much she has grown and how her perception of success has changed!
Legally Blonde is an inspiring, feel-good story about sisterhood and personal growth that challenges stereotypes and celebrates individualism! I give this movie five out of five stars and encourage everyone to watch it!
