This past June, Ascension Gator Jazz attended the UDA camp after working hard for two weeks. Following the end of the 2022 school year, the Gator jazz team practiced and perfected a home routine to be evaluated on the first day of camp. They worked long and hard throughout the four days of camp and each individual learned two dances in addition to learning a group dance. Over the course of four days, the team partook in team-building exercises, leadership roles, and learned new sidelines. The last night of camp was Crazy Night, where multiple teams dressed according to the theme, Magic. The Gator Jazz dressed up as fairies and bonded with other teams.
One of our freshmen, Isabella Malespin, said, “Camp was so much fun!! I loved hanging out with everyone and getting closer to my team!”
The team performed their home routine dance and received first place in the small home routine division. On the last day, the dancers took the stage bright and early and performed in front of their parents and staff. They received all blue ribbons in their routines, a superior trophy, and brought home a spirit stick every night.
Individual accomplishments include All Americans, Samantha Matt, Molly Cormier, and Claire Reddick. For the second year in a row, Ava Cope took the title of Drill Down Queen.
This was a great way to start the new year. We are so excited to see what this year brings and the accomplishments we achieve!!
