Look at the Positive

Losing sucks. It just does. You will lose in life, and there isn’t a way to avoid it. Failure isn’t easy to take. At first it may seem rough and hard to swallow, but with every loss there is something to learn and benefit from. After you’ve lost something there is no way to get rid of that, but you are able to benefit from it.

So how do we benefit from our losses? The answer is very simple: seek improvements and find the good in the loss. I would 100% consider myself an athletic winner, without a doubt. I am very competitive and when I lose a big athletic event, I usually don’t take it lightly. In order to be better, I can improve my game and understand that I may lose every now and then, but it doesn’t mean I’m a loser. My advice to y’all from personal experience is to adjust and improve after.

Recently, we lost an incredibly good person in Coach Celie. It’s very hard for most of us to process, and it is for me too. I will use this time to celebrate the life that she lived, as she was very inspiring to me. She taught us to live according to the school motto: gentle, generous, truthful, kind, and brave. We should take what she said and apply it to ourselves so that we can be better. Mourning her loss is inevitable, but we should use this loss and our human desire to improve as motivation to become better.

If I can leave you with anything you’ll remember, remember this: losing is inevitable; it has happened and will happen more to all of us. It is ultimately what we do after the loss that will define who we are as people.
