Three versus three basketball is a game with a history as rich as the world itself. I hear it was a fan favorite of Jesus and his disciples. People say it was actually a sport invented by the ancient Myans. But honestly, if Jesus could turn water into wine, then I’m sure he could have come up with basketball, too.

Here at Ascension we host a “March Madness 3 on 3 Tournament” every year as part of our Lenten fundraising campaign to raise money for our sister school in Uganda in Africa. The games are held during Community time on March 3rd, 10th, and 12th. Senior and basketball star Mr. William Frentz says “I believe this is a double charity act because we [my team] are helping the people of Uganda while also letting other teams win.” Each game lasts ten minutes or until a team takes a ten point lead. This is an event open to both students and faculty.

Though the deadline to sign up has passed and games have already started, there is some incentive for those currently competing in these games. The winning team for boys and girls will receive Gator Cup points for their grade. Alongside adding to their Gator Cup point total, the winning team will receive free dress for the remainder of the school year. Mr. Sorrell states, “The 3 on 3 tournament is all about having a little fun here at school, and if we raise money for those in need, then that makes it even better!
