Picture it. You’re standing in the gym foyer with your friends, and you hear Soulja Boy’s “Kiss Me Thru The Phone” blasting in the gym. You grab your friend by the hand as you run towards the crowded dance floor. Except you’re not at a middle school dance; you’re at the Ascension Episcopal’s Back to School Bash.

Friday, August 17 was Ascension’s annual Back to School Bash. This year’s theme was “Party in the USA.” Students in grades 8-12 began flooding their way in to the gym around 8pm, many of whom stayed in the parking lot late after the dance to have their own dance party. With special guest DJ’s juniors Izzy Nguyen and Ava Breaux, the music was said to be a hit by many who attended, including junior Luke Ortego who exclaimed, “The music was so lit! But make sure you follow me on Instagram @lmortego.”

The dance floor was packed as students adorned in more American flag print shorts and Brandy Melville “USA” tees you ever did see got down to party classics such as Miley Cyrus’ “Party In The USA”(obviously) and Waka Flocka Flame’s “No Hands”. Even eighth grader Gabe Forche and senior Sophie Hebert got in on the action with some mean crowd surfing. When asking senior party animal Addie Vidrine how she felt about her final bash, she responded with an energetic, “Hello… the dance was the best Ascension dance in the history of dances — don’t @ me.”

At the end of the night, attendees exited the gym with Journey’s 1981 hit “Don’t Stop Believin'” ringing in the background. The dance was a hit for all who attended, and the student body cannot wait to see what the class leaders have in store for future dances.
