Big Sis Lil Sis

Big+Sis+Lil+Sis

On Thursday, August 9th, the seniors put on Big Sis Lil Sis for the eighth grade girls. Senior Ann Louise Babineaux hosted this event, and she made it perfect for bonding and fun. Ascension students switch campuses and join the high school kids in eighth grade, which can be intimidating, so it is good to have events like Big Sis lil sis to help them have a smooth transition. Seniors even got “big sis” and “lil sis” shirts to wear the next day and all Fridays for spirit day.

The eighth grade girls were gathered in a room with balloons. They had to pop the balloons, and inside of it was their big sister’s name. After they found their name, they had to go look around the house to try and find their big sis. Senior Elise Juneau said this was her favorite part. She said, “At Big Sis Little Sis, I enjoyed hiding in our spots so our little sis could find us.”  It was a new kind of hide and seek, especially since some of our hiding spots weren’t very creative. Once the eighth graders found their big sis, everyone played a game called Family. Everyone was actually expecting to have a pool day, but the rain didn’t want to stop so they played this game inside instead. No one finished the game. They all just walked away from it to take pictures outside before the rain would start again. When everyone got outside, a mom got everyone around the pool for the picture. Eighth grader Madelyn Ancona ended up getting on a float in the pool while still in her uniform, and someone got thrown into the pool by one of their friends. Senior Ann Louise Babineaux said, “I love Big Sis Lil Sis so much because it lets the older kids get to know the younger ones and gives everyone the opportunity to make new friends!” It was a lot of fun, and it looked like everyone was having the best time.

The next day during lunch, the seniors met their lil sis under the pavilion to eat and ask about each other’s day. It was exciting to see everyone sitting down and talking. It was a mixed group of people, which is interesting to see because normally everyone just sits and eats with their friend group. Another interesting thing was that everyone was making sure their lil sis was included in conversations. There wasn’t one person who was leaving the younger people out. Big Sis Lil Sis is an activity that is important because it’s not just a tradition. It’s a time to get to know other people to break out of the box of seeing the same people every day.
