For the first time in Blue Gator history, our football boys are going to the Superdome for the state championship this Friday! The whole school has been celebrating the 31-21 victory against Central Catholic Morgan City, which took place on Friday, November 25th. Five years ago, this young team did not win a single game and did not even make it into the playoffs. Today, the Blue Gators have had a perfect season with a record of 13-0. Previous Head Coach Mike Desormeaux laid a phenomenal foundation for these players to learn and grow from. However, hope seemed lost last season after Desormeaux took a job on the UL Football coaching staff. No one had any idea what the Gators were going to look like for the 2016-2017 football season. Desormeaux’s brother, Matt Desormeaux, has done an incredible job picking up where his brother left off, coaching a team that has played near perfect football this season.

The gators will be playing the hardest game they will face all season on Friday morning. The Southern Lab kittens ended up number three in the division with a record of 14-1. The kittens are known for their speed and size, with players that are 6’4 and up to 270 pounds. Although both teams have many differences, it is crucial for the Gators to play the game they know how to play and not overthink their size or skill. Desormeaux said at the beginning of the season that the team had 3 goals for the 2016-2017 season: winning a district title, having a perfect season at home, and finishing with a state championship game. They’ve crossed two off the list, being district champs and having an untouched record, but will the Blue Gators win their first ever state title? Come to the New Orleans this Friday at 10:00am to find out!
