This week marks the first official celebration of St. Carlo Acutis, known as the “millennial saint,” whose feast day is October 12.
Carlo Acutis was born on May 3, 1991 in London. He went to school run by Jesuits in Italy, and he found interest in technology. Carlo was inspired by Steve Jobs and stressed to live a life as the person God created you to be, not someone else. He also emphasized the presence of the Eucharist and its importance in our daily lives. Using his skills in technology, Carlo created a website accounting for the many miracles of God. You can visit the website here: https://www.miracolieucaristici.org/en/liste/list.html
Carlo is known for saying, “To always be close to Jesus, that is my life plan.” He dedicated time each and every day to spend with God. He made God his life plan. At the age of 15, Carlo died of Leukemia.
The remarkable thing about Carlo’s life is that he was just like us. He had many passions, such as computer sciences, and he found interest in playing sports and video games. So what makes us believe that we are any different? He dedicated his life to God, using his talents and skills to worship Him. We can do this too! Acts 20:24 says, “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me– the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”
Nineteen years after his death, Carlo was canonized by Pope Leo XIV. He became the first millennial saint of the Catholic Church. We celebrate his life as his feast day on October 12.
Most Holy God, inspire me to live a life like Carlo Acutis. As you gave me the gifts of talent, encourage me to use my talents to glorify you. The Eucharist is such a sacred sacrament, so I thank you for granting me the gift to receive it. I ask that along this journey of life that we walk through together, that you help guide me and stray me away from the evil of this world. I trust in you that your plan is better than anything I could create for myself, just as Carlo’s life pleased you. St. Carlo Acutis, pray for us. Amen.
