Name: Amir Balbeisi
Grade started: 10th
Favorite teacher: Mr. Ducote — he pushes Amir to think for himself and find love in learning.
Favorite Ascension memory: Sophomore trip
Future plans: He would like to attend Yale or the University of Oxford to study international relations, so he can turn a lifelong habit of helping others into a career of service and impact.
While at Ascension, Amir has played (before injury) Football, Soccer, and Tennis. He is a member of leadership, serving as Lead Prefect, and was formerly the publicity prefect. He is the founder & president of the Youth Government Club, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, and Alpha Mu (Math Club). He said, “I love building a community for the school to thrive on.” In his free time, he is big on movies, books, music, Legos, and time with friends. He also films and edits school videos, sketches logo ideas for spirit shirts, shoots sports photos, and tinkers with small business ideas. On weekends, you will usually find him working a shift with Zeus or Agave.
His favorite thing about Ascension is how inclusive and student-driven it is. He says, “When students bring ideas—spirit competitions, service drives, or a wild pep-rally segment—the community says, ‘Yes, let’s build it.’ Teachers and staff trust us to lead, and that trust makes you want to step up for everyone else.” If he could describe himself in three words, they would be “Resilient, outgoing, nonchalant (in the best way—trust).” Fun fact: Amir has lived in 11 different houses.
When asked what he would say if he could give advice to younger students, he said, “Be yourself and choose the right circle—people who make you better. Say yes to opportunities, then follow through. Show up, be kind, and finish what you start. Your habits today are your opportunities tomorrow.” Another piece of advice he wished to give is: “Try hard in school—not for a GPA competition, but to expand what’s possible for your future. Get involved; you can genuinely make this community better. Let your light shine so our school can be its brightest—academically, athletically, and in the way we show up for each other.”
