The beginning of a new year always comes with New Year’s resolutions. Many people try to eat better, workout more, not spend as much money on Starbucks, or even something simple, like giving up soda. Senior Grace Morgan said, “My New Year’s resolution is to drink more water and live in the moment”. If you’re like me, New Year’s resolutions always start off well but then you eventually give up and forget about them. This year, I’m really trying to stick to mine and make it a prominent part of my life. Here are a 4 tips I’ve been using to help me stick to my goals:
1. Tiny Victories
If you are trying to do something very new that will take time getting used to, try to start small and celebrate the small victories. This puts less pressure on yourself making your goal seem easier to achieve.
2. Find People Who Have the Same Resolutions as You
If you know me, you know my diet is Canes and Chick-Fil-A. So when 2021 came about I decided I wanted to start eating better and focus more on my health/fitness. After conversations with my friends, I found out that one of my friends was doing the same thing, so now we workout together and share recipes! Trying new things is ALWAYS better when doing it with a friend.
3. Think of the End Result
Something that always keeps me motivated when trying new things or completing a challenge is always having the end result or goal in my head. Senior Audrey Abshire says, “something that keeps me motivated is seeing improvement”. There are some days when you really just want to give in, but if you remind yourself of why you are doing this and the outcome of all of it, it can push you a lot.
4. Slip Ups are Okay
Some days are hard and you just have to give in. It’s totally understandable, but don’t let that bring on feelings of failure and knock you off track. If you failed, there is always a reason to start up again!
I hope that some of this motivates you to try and keep your resolutions.
