Thirty-four middle and upper school students competed Saturday at the 2011 Lafayette High Math Tournament, earning a number of individual awards and placing second in the Interschool Team Test.
A total of 19 area schools competed in the tournament with individual events in Pre-algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.
In the individual events, seventh grader Rhea Kataria took first place in Pre-algebra. Eighth grader Luke Butcher claimed first place in Algebra I. Third, fifth, and sixth places in Geometry went to freshmen Andre Guidry, Logan Daigle, and Emily Duplechain, respectively. Among the sophomores, Jerome Romagosa took first place in Algebra II with Chris Falcon placing second, Michael Trahan placing third, and Michael Case placing sixth. Junior Andrew Butcher took fifth place in Pre-calculus, and Senior William Barry took sixth place in Calculus.
In the team events, seventh and eighth grade students Charles Cloutier, Mercedes Alvarez, Madison Caswell, and Rhea Kataria took fourth place.
“I am so proud of our students,” said Ms. Arabie. “Not only did our students place very
well in every subject in which we competed, the overall performance on
the All-School Team Test speaks volumes about our academic progress as
a school.”
